Cambodia Immigration and Labor Oversight: GDI Provincial Inspections of Foreign Workers

Background

The General Department of Immigration (GDI) is the national authority responsible for administering immigration control, including registration and status verification of foreign nationals residing or working in Cambodia.

The Cambodian immigration framework enables authorized officials to carry out on-site workplace inspections to verify the identity and immigration status of foreign employees; such inspections are an operational mechanism for monitoring the presence of foreign labour in industrial and commercial sites.

Enforcement Actions

According to the GDI Facebook post dated 15 October 2026, mixed provincial inspection teams carried out checks on 14 October 2026 in Prey Veng, Tbong Khmum and Mondulkiri provinces.

The post reports that teams inspected 13 company and factory targets and identified a total of 34 foreign workers currently performing work, including 9 women; the workers were reported as belonging to six different nationalities.

Institutional Role

GDI-led inspections document on-the-ground distribution of foreign labour across provinces and provide primary data for any subsequent administrative actions by immigration and labour authorities.
