On 25 March 2026, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) held a meeting to discuss the inception report for a feasibility study on improving irrigation and drainage systems in Cambodia with technical assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The meeting was chaired by Pech Veasna, Under Secretary of State, representing Minister Thor Chetha. Participants included ministry leadership, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, relevant department heads and technical officials, JICA representatives in Cambodia, and representatives of provincial water resources and meteorology departments from Takeo, Kampong Speu, Siem Reap, and Banteay Meanchey.
According to the presentation by the JICA study team, the preliminary feasibility study results proposed review and decision by MOWRAM and relevant technical authorities on the scope of rehabilitation and new construction works for two major irrigation systems: the Srap Sreng irrigation system in Siem Reap and Banteay Meanchey, and the Khpob Trabek-Lok Dam irrigation system in Takeo and Kampong Speu.
The meeting agreed in principle with the study team’s proposal so that subsequent procedures could continue. MOWRAM also instructed relevant departments to continue close cooperation with the technical team to support completion of the study according to plan.
