On 16-17 January 2026, Bun Hean, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) and head of the project inspection unit, led a working group to inspect and evaluate the completion of three irrigation system maintenance projects after their six-month implementation period. The inspection was conducted on behalf of Minister Thor Chetha and included participation from the deputy director and technical officials of the Department of Agricultural Hydrology.
The three projects are located in Kampong Chhnang, Pailin, and Banteay Meanchey provinces and involve maintenance and rehabilitation works on embankments, canals, and related hydraulic structures.
Project Details
1. Prek Chik Lomhach embankment maintenance project (Phase 2), Kampong Chhnang Province
This project is located in Baribour District. The reported works include repair of one earth embankment section with a total length of 1,300 metres, a width of 20 metres, average inner and outer embankment height of 10 metres, construction of one concrete slope protection structure measuring 85 metres, and stone-mix surfacing on the embankment crest for use as an access road.
2. Main Canal No. 2 maintenance project of the Thnal Bat irrigation system, Pailin Province
This project is located in Sala Krau District. The reported works include restoration of one main canal with a total length of 7,000 metres, laterite surfacing along the canal crest, grass planting for erosion protection on canal slopes, and construction of three new water-control structures.
3. Main Canal No. 2 maintenance project of the Trapaing Thmor reservoir irrigation system, Banteay Meanchey Province
This project is located in Phnom Srok District. The reported works include restoration of one main canal with a total length of 16,050 metres, laterite surfacing along the canal crest, grass planting for erosion protection on canal slopes, and repair and maintenance of 31 hydraulic structures.
Implementation Notes
During the inspection, the Secretary of State instructed the implementation team of the Department of Agricultural Hydrology to continue paying attention to the repair and maintenance of canals, existing hydraulic structures, and new works so that they meet the required technical standards and appearance. He also instructed the provincial departments of water resources and meteorology to manage the completed assets.
