The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications announced that Cambodia will officially begin operating fifth-generation mobile telecommunications services, or 5G, from January 2026. According to the notice, the Royal Government officially announced the commencement of 5G operations on 5 December 2025.
The ministry stated that it has worked with the country’s three major mobile operators—Cellcard (CamGSM), Metfone (Viettel Cambodia), and Smart (Smart Axiata)—to accelerate the construction of telecommunications antenna stations and the installation of equipment to provide 5G service in locations identified in an attached map.
Users of the three operators will be able to begin using 5G services from 00:01 on 1 January 2026 in the initial service areas. The first phase covers Phnom Penh and selected key areas in Siem Reap, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Stung Treng, and Kampot provinces.
The notice added that 5G coverage will be expanded in phases to reach additional areas and eventually other provinces nationwide.
The ministry linked the launch to Cambodia’s digital transformation agenda under the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1, the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021–2035, and the Cambodia Digital Government Policy 2022–2035.
