Background
The Ministry of Environment’s Department of Environmental Impact Assessment reviews Initial Environmental Impact Assessment (IEIA) reports submitted for projects that require technical and legal evaluation under Cambodia’s environmental review framework. On 8 September 2026, Undersecretary of State Chea Sina led an inter-ministerial review session to examine an IEIA submitted for a mineral exploration concession in Ratanakiri province.
The exploration proposal covers 398 square kilometres across Koh Pang, Ta Vaeng Kraom and Kok Lak communes and Veun Sai district in Ratanakiri, and the project proponent is RENAISSANCE MINERALS (CAMBODIA) LIMITED with the IEIA study prepared by W2P Environment CO., LTD. Twenty-four technical officers from the Department of Environmental Impact Assessment and representatives from related ministries and institutions participated in the session to provide technical and legal comments.

The IEIA under review applies specifically to a mineral exploration activity proposed within the 398 km² concession area in Ratanakiri. The Ministry convened inter-ministerial and institutional representatives to assess technical accuracy, legal compliance, and the proposed mitigation measures included in the IEIA.
