Cambodia Environmental Regulation: MoE Deploys Automated Industrial Waste Monitoring

Background

On 30 August 2026 the Ministry of Environment reported that automated liquid-waste monitoring equipment had been installed at 64 companies. The Ministry’s data-management report recorded a combined daily total of 71,395 cubic metres of treated liquid waste from those installations.

The monitoring results are presented using a four-colour classification: green for compliant, yellow for under observation, red for under inspection, and white for repair. Reported monitoring parameters include pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total suspended solids (TSS).

Scope of Application

The deployment covers 64 industrial facilities where the Ministry reported equipment installation and active data management. The reported figures and status colours apply specifically to the facilities measured and to the daily volumes recorded at those sites.

Key Provisions or Decisions

  • Number of companies equipped with automated monitoring: 64.
  • Daily treated liquid-waste volume recorded across equipped sites: 71,395 cubic metres.
  • Compliance status by colour: 54 companies (green, compliant); 5 companies (yellow, under observation); 2 companies (red, under inspection); 11 companies (white, under repair).
  • Monitored parameters explicitly noted: pH, COD and TSS.

Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance

The installation of automated monitoring equipment generates operational data that firms and regulators can use to document daily treated effluent volumes. Colour-coded status provides an operational classification of facility monitoring results and identifies sites requiring repairs or closer technical attention.
