On 11-12 March 2026, Yang Saing Koma, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, presided over the opening of a training course on nutrition-sensitive climate-smart agriculture and healthy diets in Kampong Thom province.
The training was provided to commune agricultural officers, commune authorities, school principals, and heads of health centers from 15 target communes in Kampong Thom, Banteay Meanchey, and Kampong Chhnang provinces. The program was organized by Helen Keller International in support of the INAS project and held in Kampong Thom.
Participants included Chea Samnang, Vice Chair of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development of the Office of the Council of Ministers, Khat Sothea, Under Secretary of State, Prim Rotha, Deputy Governor of Kampong Thom province, representatives of Helen Keller International, representatives from the Department of Agricultural Extension, and representatives from the provincial department of agriculture in Kampong Thom.
During the opening remarks, Yang Saing Koma instructed commune and sangkat agricultural officers, described as key actors in the project, to identify farmers to cooperate in establishing household vegetable gardens and to support the creation of vegetable gardens in target schools in line with the project’s implementation plan.
At the closing ceremony, Chea Samnang, as co-chair of the INAS project, stated that successful implementation would require coordinated action among commune agricultural officers, local authorities, schools, and health centers, with shared responsibility for improving community well-being and reducing malnutrition, with priority attention to children in rural areas.
