Cambodia Foreign Labor Governance: Immigration Taskforce Inspects Employer Compliance in Central Provinces

Background

As an administrative function, the General Department of Immigration (GDI) carries out targeted on-site reviews of foreign worker arrangements at companies, factories and other employer locations. The GDI’s mixed-taskforce for foreign labor carries out on-site checks to verify employers’ adherence to Cambodia’s law on foreign labor.

On 6 October 2026 the GDI inspection team visited 19 locations and recorded 123 foreign workers from nine nationalities, including 29 women. The operation covered employer sites in Kandal, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum and Mondulkiri provinces.

Key Developments

The October operation was reported by the GDI as a coordinated inspection of multiple enterprises in central and eastern provinces. Inspectors documented the presence and basic demographics of foreign employees while noting the specific provinces and number of employer sites visited.

Institutional Role

The mixed-taskforce is an operational unit within the General Department of Immigration that focuses on verifying compliance with the statutory framework governing foreign labor. The unit’s activities include site visits to employers and factories where foreign nationals are engaged in work.

Compliance Implications

Employers who engage foreign workers are subject to verification by immigration authorities and should expect periodic on-site inspections. Firms employing non-citizen workers are advised to ensure that worker status and workplace records correspond with applicable legal requirements to facilitate administrative checks.
