On 29 January 2026, the government spokesperson issued a press briefing on measures being taken by the Royal Government of Cambodia to support residents displaced by armed conflict.
The briefing referred to a 10 January 2026 message by Prime Minister Hun Manet stating that, for displaced residents who were still unable to return home, relevant ministries and institutions were considering improvements to temporary shelters or relocation of temporary shelters to better sites where necessary. The government also stated that it was considering measures to help affected residents maintain their livelihoods until they could return to their homes.
According to the briefing, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction had identified surveyed areas to prepare temporary shelters for displaced residents in order to support their safety and well-being until return became possible. The update described this as a further development in the government’s response to the situation.
The spokesperson stated that nearly 83% of more than 640,000 displaced residents had already returned home, and that returns were continuing daily under coordination by local authorities.
The briefing also stated that displaced residents staying in designated safe centers were receiving government support, including shelter or tents, security protection, and food supplies.
