Background
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) maintains an operational network of automatic meteorological stations that support weather observation and monitoring across provincial Cambodia. Automatic meteorological stations record temperature, humidity, wind direction and speed, and atmospheric pressure and use data-loggers and telemetry to transmit measurements to central servers for operational forecasting and monitoring.
Regular technical maintenance and field inspections are part of MOWRAM’s infrastructure stewardship to preserve continuous data collection and transmission. Data-loggers, solar power systems, telemetry SIM cards, batteries, and modems are common maintenance focal points for ensuring station uptime and reliable reporting.
Key Developments
On 28 July 2026, a technical team from MOWRAM’s Directorate of Meteorology conducted on-site inspection, repair and maintenance work at three automatic meteorological stations located in Kampong Speu, Tbong Khmum and Kratie provinces. Field tasks documented by the team included verifying measurement instruments, downloading stored data from data-loggers, installing or servicing solar panels, and replacing SIM cards, batteries, modems and CMOS batteries within data-logger units.
Operational Implications
Technical interventions also addressed sensor performance for temperature, humidity, wind and pressure instruments and included vegetation clearing and perimeter cleaning to reduce interference with sensors. Routine field maintenance activities such as those carried out by MOWRAM are intended to reduce interruptions in the telemetry chain and preserve the integrity of time-series meteorological records used by operational forecasters and planners.
