On 27 March 2026, Chun Putharith, Director General of Technical Affairs and head of the project inspection unit, led a technical team on behalf of the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology to inspect on-site progress of phase-one routine maintenance works at the Lumhach and Achang irrigation systems in Baribour District, Kampong Chhnang Province.
Background
The inspection concerned two irrigation system maintenance sites under the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology. The visit focused on routine maintenance progress and the technical condition of irrigation channels, headworks, and associated hydraulic structures.
Key Project Details
At the Lumhach irrigation system, works under implementation included cleaning and repairing a main concrete canal with a length of 16,396 metres, a secondary canal designated SC1 with a length of 841 metres, and concrete secondary canals SCC7 and SCC12 with a combined length of 12,028 metres. The team also reported ongoing maintenance of the head regulator station, mechanical systems, and a total of 217 civil structures.
At the Achang irrigation system, the maintenance programme focused on main and secondary canals across 11 lines with a total length of 57,285 metres. The works also covered major hydraulic structures including flood release gates, stoplog gates, spillway structures, and head regulator structures. In addition, the project included maintenance of 115 water distribution and crossing structures, including bridges, water retention structures, outlet culverts, drainage culverts, and cross-drainage culverts.
Administrative Guidance
During the mission, the Director General assessed the progress positively and instructed the technical team to continue implementation in accordance with technical standards to ensure construction quality and sustainability. He also emphasized efficient water management and use, and called on the public, especially older persons and children, to take health precautions during the period of extreme heat.
