On 26 March 2026, Thang Viyuthda, Director of the Engineering Department of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a technical team to inspect progress on the restoration of the Pong Muoy main canal in Kum Reachea commune, Bati District, Takeo Province. He conducted the visit as representative of the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology.
According to the ministry, the project began implementation on 26 February 2026.
Background
The Pong Muoy main canal receives water from rainfall catchment areas in the Srong mountain range and from the southern Roleang Chrey canal. The restoration project is being implemented to improve water conveyance and related hydraulic functions in the area.
Key Project Details
The ministry stated that the project includes two main components:
- Restoration of two main canal sections with a total length of 4,750 metres
- Construction of 15 associated hydraulic structures
During the inspection, the Engineering Department instructed the site management and technical teams to ensure efficient machinery management and fuel use, and to maintain compliance with the project’s technical standards and specifications to support construction quality and implementation progress.
Expected Public Utility Effects
According to the ministry, the project is intended to:
- Improve flood drainage
- Prevent flooding on National Road 3 at the Tram Khnar market area
- Provide irrigation water for 700 hectares of wet-season rice, 350 hectares of dry-season rice, and 20 hectares of mixed crops
- Support daily water use for approximately 955 households in five villages of Kum Reachea commune
