Cambodia Transport Regulation: MPWT Enforces Vehicle Weight Limits on National Road 55

Background

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport administers vehicle weight inspections on national roads through designated inspection teams and cooperating local station officers to protect road infrastructure and public safety. On 17 May 2026, a special inspection team conducted vehicle weight checks on National Road 55 between km 38–39 in Phnum Kravanh district, Pursat province.

Vehicle weight limits are implemented as part of Cambodia’s road asset management and are monitored by committees authorized to inspect commercial freight vehicles. The Ministry issues operational directions to field teams that carry out roadside checks and document overweight cases for follow-up under applicable transport regulations.

Scope of Application

The inspection activity covered commercial freight vehicles operating on National Road 55 in the section between kilometre markers 38 and 39 within Phnum Kravanh district, Pursat province. The enforcement action targeted gross vehicle weight compliance for heavy transport on a national highway segment that serves regional freight movements.

Key Provisions or Decisions

On 17 May 2026, the special working group, acting under direct instruction from the Minister and the leading inspection committee, inspected two freight vehicles. The vehicles were recorded carrying total loads of 59 tonnes and 62 tonnes respectively, exceeding the permitted weight by 19 tonnes and 22 tonnes relative to the statutory limits cited by the inspection team.

Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance

Freight operators and logistics businesses using Cambodia’s national road network should monitor gross vehicle weight and load distribution to remain compliant with transport regulations and to avoid operational disruption. Regular pre-trip load checks and coordination with vehicle loading agents can reduce the risk of roadside detention and maintain access to national routes that support supply chains.
