Background
On 26 August 2026 the Ministry of Health opened a workshop in Kampot province, presided over by Secretary of State Professor Yit Sunnar in his role as head of the Ministry’s Coordination Committee for National-Level Care and Treatment (Khmer acronym: គ.ថ.ព.វ.ជ.). The event gathered senior ministry staff, hospital directors and clinical guideline working-group members to promote standardized guidance across Cambodia’s public health system.
The Ministry of Health of Cambodia develops and disseminates Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) to standardize clinical care across national and provincial hospitals. The workshop presented CPGs for general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology and dentistry.
The Ministry announced plans to develop a dedicated application in collaboration with the Department of Digital Health to provide clinicians with easier access to CPGs and to support ongoing in-service training and feedback collection for future guideline updates.
Scope of Application
The CPGs target physicians and frontline health-service providers operating in national hospitals, provincial referral hospitals and related public health facilities. Implementation guidance emphasizes local adaptation to facility capacity and the integration of CPG use into routine clinical training and supervision.
Key Provisions or Decisions
- Wide dissemination of CPG content and key messages for each specialty covered by the workshop.
- Strengthening of clinician capacity through regular in-service training on CPG use and interpretation.
- Promotion of context-sensitive implementation at national and provincial hospital levels to align practice with facility resources.
- Establishment of feedback channels from clinicians on usability, implementation challenges, and suggested improvements to inform future guideline revisions.
- Development of a digital application to facilitate reading, searching and continuous training on the CPGs.
Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance
Health facilities and clinical leadership will need to incorporate the CPGs into local protocols and continuous professional development programs to align clinical practices with ministry guidance. The planned digital application will require collaboration between the Ministry’s digital health unit and facility IT teams to ensure secure distribution and regular updates of guideline content. Providers are expected to contribute structured feedback to support iterative updates, rather than to a legally mandated compliance regime.
