On 24 March 2026 at the Ministry of Health in Phnom Penh, Professor Kouy Vanny, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, received a delegation led by IWAKI Mitsuhide, former Minister of Justice of Japan and President of the Cambodia–Fukushima Friendship Association. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in the health sector and exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia.

According to the Ministry of Health, the two sides exchanged views on cooperation in health-service development, human resource training, medical experience exchange, and improving the quality of treatment services. The Japanese delegation expressed its intention to study the feasibility of establishing a private hospital in Phnom Penh and contributing to the development of Cambodia’s health sector. The Cambodian side welcomed the interest and stated the Royal Government’s commitment to improving health services and encouraging investment from international partners. Both sides agreed to continue technical discussions and conduct further detailed study of possible future cooperation.
