Background
Industrial wastewater monitoring in Cambodia uses fixed sensors and automated data systems to collect discharge parameters at facility outlets and treatment points. Automated effluent monitoring systems record wastewater parameters such as pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total suspended solids (TSS) at industrial discharge points.
The Ministry of Environment has been deploying automatic effluent monitoring equipment to industrial facilities to capture daily treated wastewater volumes and colour-coded compliance indicators that support environmental oversight. These devices form part of a system-level function that links facility-level sensors to ministry data platforms for daily reporting of cleaned effluent quantities.
Key Developments
Ministry of Environment reporting on 26 August 2026 states that automated effluent monitoring equipment was installed at 64 companies. The installed systems recorded a combined daily cleaned effluent total of 71,395 cubic metres.
The ministry published a colour-coded snapshot of facility status from the monitoring data: 55 companies marked green (compliant with standards), 2 companies marked yellow (under monitoring), 3 companies marked red (subject to inspection), and 12 companies marked white (under repair).
Operational Implications
The installed monitors generate parameter-specific data (including pH, COD, and TSS) and aggregate daily treated effluent volumes for each equipped facility. Facility-level automated reporting creates a continuous data stream that can be used for operational tracking of treatment performance and for compiling ministry-level wastewater statistics.
