Background
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment signed a Country Planning Framework covering 2026–2028, executed on 28 July 2026 at the ministry headquarters by Minister Dr. Eng Sophalet and GGGI Executive Director Sang‑Hyup Kim.
The Framework focuses on biodiversity conservation, climate-change response and measures aligned with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to support Cambodia’s stated pathway toward carbon neutrality by 2050.
Institutional Role
The Country Planning Framework establishes a multi-year cooperation platform between the Ministry of Environment and GGGI to coordinate technical assistance, program design and capacity support for environment-related initiatives in Cambodia. The agreement frames joint workstreams that include conservation of natural resources, strengthened environmental governance, and actions to enhance national resilience to climate hazards.
Market Impact
The Framework explicitly includes components for reforestation initiatives and the development of commercial carbon projects and carbon credit financing consistent with the Paris Agreement mechanisms.
