On 28 April 2026, Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul opened World Intellectual Property Day 2026 at the Ministry of Commerce under the theme “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate.” The ceremony also included the launch of intellectual property projects and an exhibition of products, geographical indications, collective marks, traditional knowledge, and traditional cultural expressions.
The Ministry of Commerce reported that four additional Cambodian geographical indications had been registered in the first four months of 2026: Phnom Srok Golden Silk, Koh Kong Stone Crab, Oddar Meanchey Mango, and Kampong Thom Cashew Nuts. The ministry also announced the collective mark for Preah Vihear Wild Honey.
According to the ministry, Cambodia’s geographical indication list increased to 12 products: Kampot Pepper, Kampong Speu Palm Sugar, Mondulkiri Wild Honey, Koh Trong Pomelo, Kampot-Kep Fish Sauce, Kampot-Kep Salt, Takeo Lobster, Siem Reap Prahok, Kampong Thom Cashew Nuts, Oddar Meanchey Mango, Koh Kong Stone Crab, and Phnom Srok Golden Silk.

Minister Cham Nimul linked intellectual property protection to the sports sector by referring to trademarks, patents, industrial designs, and copyright-related rights connected with sports equipment, branding, media, and creative activity.
