Cambodia Immigration Enforcement: Deportation, Border Control and Online-Scam Response

Background

The General Department of Immigration (GDI) administers immigration controls, border checks, and deportation procedures at Cambodia’s international entry points and coordinates with law enforcement on cross-border removals and repatriation operations. Between 1 and 10 May 2026, the General Department of Immigration (GDI) deported 3,684 foreign nationals from Cambodia.

The deportation operation involved nationals of 35 countries and included multiple offence types identified by GDI. The deported group included 489 women and nationals from 35 countries. GDI reported that 1,968 of the deported individuals were nationals of China and were linked to online scam cases. Deportations were processed through police checkpoints at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and Techo International Airport.

Key Developments

GDI announced that the removals targeted a range of violations, including illegal entry, use of forged documents, unlawful residence, unauthorised employment, and participation in technology-enabled fraud schemes. The agency described the operation as part of intensified actions to identify and repatriate foreign nationals who are subject to criminal or administrative removal under Cambodia’s immigration framework.

Institutional Role

The General Department of Immigration conducted the operation under guidance from senior government and interior ministry leadership and coordinated with airport police at principal international terminals. GDI published operational summaries and contact links via its official social channels to communicate the results and avenues for repatriation or legal follow-up.
