Background
On 25 March 2026 at the Senate’s Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum building, Ouch Borith, Acting President of the Senate of Cambodia, received Kim Chang Yong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, for a courtesy call and working discussion.
During the meeting, the Acting Senate President highlighted the continued development of friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea across multiple sectors. He referred to the restoration of diplomatic relations in 1997 and described the current relationship as a strategic partnership.

The Senate statement said the discussion covered bilateral relations, the role of parliamentary diplomacy, cooperation between the Cambodian Senate and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, exchanges through parliamentary friendship groups and mutual visits, and stronger coordination mechanisms between the two legislative institutions. The Cambodian side also expressed appreciation for South Korean support to Cambodia’s development through ODA, KOICA, and EDCF, and stated an intention to elevate bilateral relations from a strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
