At an event marking the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day on 8 March in Koh Andet district, Takeo province, Nin Saphon, Chair of the Ninth Commission of the National Assembly, stated that peace and security are essential preconditions for women, families, and society as a whole.
In her remarks, she presented three main points. First, she emphasized the role of women in national security, stating that women are not only beneficiaries of peace but also active participants in peacebuilding, peace preservation, and conflict prevention, with reference to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. Second, she referred to the election of Khuon Sudary as the first woman President of the National Assembly as an important political milestone reflecting the value placed on women in politics. Third, she said the Royal Government under Prime Minister Hun Manet continues to promote gender equality as a priority under the Pentagonal Strategy.
She also called on leaders at all levels to continue removing obstacles affecting women and to expand opportunities for women to take on leadership roles in support of sustainable social development, stability, and prosperity.
