On 23 March 2026, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Thor Chetha met with Tania Meyer, Country Manager of the World Bank for Cambodia, East Asia and the Pacific, and colleagues at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology to discuss the Cambodia Water Security Compact and future directions for its implementation.
According to the ministry, the Cambodia Water Security Compact is an initiative under the World Bank Group’s Water Strategy Implementation Plan (WSIP). Cambodia was identified as one of 27 priority countries under the initiative and one of only two in East Asia and the Pacific.
During the meeting, the minister stated that the compact is intended to establish a unified national framework for water security, strengthen inter-ministerial coordination, support Cambodia’s 2050 vision, and improve climate resilience. The ministry said the compact is designed around three pillars: water for people, water for food, and water for the planet.
