On 10 March 2026, Chun Putharith, Director General of the General Department of Technical Affairs of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a technical team to inspect and assess the progress of phase 1 routine maintenance works and periodic maintenance works on major irrigation systems in Kampong Speu and Takeo provinces. He conducted the mission as representative of the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology.
Background
The inspection focused on ongoing maintenance activities on important irrigation infrastructure intended to support timely and sustainable water supply for agricultural use. During the mission, the ministry reviewed implementation progress and emphasized adherence to technical standards, construction quality, safety, and timely delivery.
Projects Reviewed
The technical team inspected four irrigation maintenance sites:

Prey Ed Irrigation System (periodic maintenance): maintenance of a 4,320-meter main canal, repair of 9 hydraulic structures including spillways, gates, check structures, and culverts, and construction of 4 additional circular culvert structures.

Khpob Trabek Reservoir Irrigation System (routine maintenance): maintenance of the MC1 main canal over 18,000 meters and works on a total of 102 structures, including automatic water gates, intake structures, distribution structures, check structures, and bridges.

Hanuman Irrigation System (routine maintenance): maintenance of 4 main canals with a combined length of 28,540 meters and works on a total of 92 structures, including check structures, distribution structures, crossing bridges, and drainage culverts.

Tnot Main Canal Irrigation System (periodic maintenance): maintenance of 3 main and secondary canal lines with a combined length of 5,070 meters, repair of 5 structures, and construction of 2 additional new structures.
Implementation Notes
According to the ministry, the Director General commended the progress achieved and instructed implementation teams to maintain close attention to technical standards so as to ensure quality, safety, and proper construction conditions. He also stressed the need to accelerate implementation in line with the planned schedule to support effective irrigation water supply for citizens.
