Background
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport operates mobile inspection teams to enforce legal weight limits on heavy vehicles on Cambodia’s public roads.
Between 17 and 19 May 2026, a mobile inspection team from the ministry conducted roadside checks of heavy transport vehicles. Fifteen heavy transport vehicles were inspected and fined for exceeding permitted weight limits by between 5 and 29 tonnes.
Key Developments
The inspection campaign ran from 17–19 May 2026 under the guidance of State Secretary Seng Chhuon and with participation from team leaders including Kim San and Mi Maradi. Teams carried out coordinated checks with road police and local traffic stations at multiple locations where heavy vehicles transit.
Enforcement Actions
The operation identified and penalised a total of 15 vehicles that exceeded statutory weight allowances. Reported overloads in the inspected vehicles ranged from an additional 5 tonnes up to 29 tonnes beyond the authorized limits.
Operational Implications
The ministry issued a formal reminder to heavy transport firms, vehicle owners and drivers to comply with legal weight and permitting requirements for heavy vehicles. MPWT stated that mobile inspection teams will continue nationwide checkpoints to enforce load limits on heavy freight traffic.
