The undersecretary stated that monthly coordination meetings are intended to help field officers, technical conservation teams, and partner organizations review implementation progress and plan future work in the protected river area.

The ministry linked the April 2026 discussions to Cambodia’s conservation record in 2025, when no dolphin deaths were recorded for a full year, described as a historic result over more than two decades. Following requests from Mekong dolphin patrol teams, Agriculture Minister Dith Tina approved the provision of two boat engines to replace older equipment. WWF also provided two additional boat engines for river guards.
The additional engines are intended to improve patrol mobility and support smoother operations in suppressing fisheries offences in the Mekong conservation area. For long-term conservation administration, such equipment support strengthens the physical operating capacity behind fisheries protection policy rather than changing the regulatory framework itself.
