Cambodia Immigration Enforcement: GDI Deportations and Immigration Governance

Background

The General Department of Immigration (GDI) enforces Cambodia’s immigration regulations by managing entry, stay, and exit procedures and by initiating deportation actions when foreign nationals are found to be in breach of visa or entry conditions. Between 11 and 20 August 2026, Cambodian immigration authorities removed 307 foreign nationals who were determined to be residing in the country unlawfully.

The operation covered a ten-day period and involved investigation and deportation procedures implemented by the department’s investigative unit under direction from senior Interior Ministry leadership. GDI reported that the group removed included 68 women and individuals from 18 different nationalities.

Enforcement Actions

GDI announced a coordinated removal operation carried out over 11–20 August 2026 that resulted in 307 persons being expelled from Cambodia for illegal presence. The 307 individuals represented 18 nationalities, which GDI listed as: Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Korea, Cameroon, Malaysia, Taiwan, Nigeria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, India, Djibouti, France, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Egypt.

Operational Implications

Large-scale removal operations typically require administrative processing of case records, verification of identity and nationality, and coordination with foreign diplomatic channels for repatriation logistics. Continued use of targeted enforcement actions by the immigration authority affects operational workload for investigative units and border-control processes.

Institutional Role

GDI stated the action followed recommendations from senior ministry leaders and that the Department of Investigation was tasked to execute the deportation procedures. The department’s public communications included links to its official social channels and its website for further administrative information.
