Environment Ministry announces plan to develop Koh Sralao as Cambodia’s first model carbon-neutral island
The Ministry of Environment announced a project to develop Koh Sralao (Koh Kong Province) as a model carbon-neutral island community, covering more than 300 households. Planned actions include mangrove and tropical forest restoration, climate-resilient infrastructure, adoption of green technologies and renewable energy (including solar-powered transport), strengthened solid-waste segregation and disposal practices (including a directive not to burn waste without technical guidance), development of environmentally friendly tourism infrastructure and products, and “smart agriculture.” The Ministry reported delivery of 328 home-solar light sets, 300 waste bins, and one waste-collection motorcycle to the community, and a community mangrove restoration activity of 3,000 trees.
