According to the press release, the Ministry of National Defence stated that the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border was being monitored following the entry into force of the ceasefire from December 27, 2025, through January 13, 2026.
The statement said Cambodia had continued to respect and implement the ceasefire agreement, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated October 26, 2025, the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee dated December 27, 2025, and other relevant documents.
The ministry also stated that Cambodia had provided full support to the ASEAN Observer Team and had emphasized the role and mandate of the observer mechanism in verifying implementation of the ceasefire and promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.
During the first week of January 2026, the Cambodian Liaison Group of the Ministry of National Defence coordinated with the ASEAN Observer Team to observe, verify, and report on the situation at four locations in Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces, according to the statement. The ministry described the sites as civilian areas and infrastructure that had been severely damaged.
The release specifically listed an observation visit on January 4, 2026, to O’ Jik Bridge, located between Chongkal District in Oddar Meanchey Province and the border of Srei Snam District in Siem Reap Province. It also listed an observation visit on January 5, 2026, to the Choam International Point of Entry in Anlong Veng District, Oddar Meanchey Province.
