Background
National Police operational teams carried out coordinated inspections of accommodation facilities in Poipet to verify residency and investigate potential technology-enabled crimes. National Police teams inspected two separate multi-storey buildings in Poipet to verify the presence and status of foreign residents and to search for electronic evidence related to alleged online scams.
At one inspected site authorities recorded 20 Indonesian nationals living in the building and did not remove suspected scam-related equipment from that location. At the other site, authorities detained 14 Thai nationals for questioning and recorded the removal of multiple electronic devices and cash as part of the procedural evidence collection.
Institutional Role
The inspections were led by a National Police central operations team in cooperation with provincial police units, the Poipet municipal administration, and specialized forces. Border protection and prosecutorial representatives participated to coordinate legal procedure and custody arrangements for persons taken for further questioning.
Enforcement Actions
Inspectors examined a twin-building complex (29-storey and 13-storey) with a reported total of 338 rooms; officers located 20 Indonesian nationals at that site and, after checking, allowed the occupants to remain. In a separate 12-storey building with 132 rooms, officers removed 14 Thai nationals to be questioned and closed four rooms pending further procedure.
Operational Implications
Items recorded and removed from the second location included one all-in-one computer, one laptop, three tablets, 123 mobile phones and cash amounts denominated in Thai baht and US dollars. Seized items and documentation were transferred to a deputy national police commissioner for custody and continuation of legal procedure.
