Cambodia Drug Regulation Enforcement: National Police Seize Methamphetamine in Battambang

Background

The National Police operate provincial anti-narcotics units that conduct targeted operations to detect and intercept illicit drug distribution within local jurisdictions. Provincial anti-narcotics units execute operations under operational directives from national police leadership and provincial commanders.

When a suspect is detained in an alleged drug-trafficking case, provincial police compile an evidentiary dossier and forward the case file to the provincial court for judicial processing. Evidence seized during operations—such as controlled substances, cash, mobile devices and vehicles—is retained by investigators for inclusion in the prosecutorial file.

Key Developments

On 10 July 2026 at approximately 19:00, Battambang provincial anti-narcotics personnel conducted an operation at Romchek 1 village, Rottana sangkat, Battambang city, and arrested a 35-year-old male identified in police reports as Teung Sengli (resident of Ta Proch village, Kdol Don Teav commune, Battambang city). Authorities reported one clear criminal case of unlawful drug trading.

Items seized and recorded by the provincial police included: one small bag of methamphetamine (ICE) weighing 4.49 grams; one mobile phone; one folding knife; 526,500 Cambodian riels in cash; one yellow metal chain (one chain with a portrait pendant and a white inlaid stone); and one black Honda Dream motorcycle (2026 series) bearing licence plate Battambang 1BA-9354. The suspect was transferred to Battambang Provincial Police Directorate custody for case preparation.

Institutional Role

The operation was carried out by the specialized office of the Battambang Provincial Police’s anti-narcotics division and was led at the provincial level by Pan Chanrith, director of the provincial anti-narcotics office, under senior police directives. Provincial anti-narcotics divisions serve as the primary policing unit responsible for on-the-ground evidence collection and arrest in drug-related criminal matters within their province.

Operational Implications

Provincial investigators are assembling the case dossier to submit to the Battambang Provincial Court for further legal proceedings. Seized items remain recorded as evidentiary material by the Battambang Provincial Police pending transfer to prosecutorial authorities.
