On 14 March 2026, the National Assembly of Cambodia reported that Kheng Samvada, Vice Chair of the National Assembly’s Seventh Commission and head of the Cambodian parliamentary women’s network within the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF), took part in a meeting of Francophone parliamentary delegates in New York. The meeting was held at the Permanent Representation of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) and was conducted under the leadership of Viviane Teitelbaum, President of the APF women’s parliamentary network.
According to the National Assembly, representatives from Chad, Catalonia, Quebec, France, Belgium, Congo, Madagascar, Morocco, and Cambodia attended the meeting. Discussions covered the role, responsibilities, and activities of the APF women’s network; exchanges of experience on challenges facing women and response measures; strengthening women’s participation and protection from all forms of violence; and support for legal services for women victims and the protection of women in areas affected by armed conflict.
Following the APF meeting, the Cambodian representative also participated in a high-level seminar on women, peace, security, and political emergency situations at United Nations Headquarters. The National Assembly stated that Cambodia’s progress in promoting gender equality was presented as a precondition for national security and sustainable development.
The post further referred to the global Women, Peace and Security agenda, noting that it is based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and aims to ensure women’s participation at all stages of peacebuilding, protection of women from violence in conflict, equal rights in dispute resolution, and protection of women’s rights globally.
