Cambodia Tourism Policy: Roadshow and Visa-Free Pilot for Chinese Visitors

Background

As part of its international promotion function, the Ministry of Tourism organizes delegations and public events to raise market awareness in target source cities and regions. The Ministry of Tourism coordinates Cambodia’s tourism promotion activities and engages with foreign city authorities and consular representatives to arrange cultural exchange and promotional programs.

H.E. Huot Hak led a high-level delegation to Haikou to participate in the 3rd Cambodia–Haikou Cultural and Tourism Exchange Day from 20–24 May 2026. The Royal Government of Cambodia has authorized a visa-free pilot for Chinese tourists scheduled to be implemented from 15 June to 15 October 2026 for tourism travel to Cambodia.

Key Developments

On 20 May 2026 the ministerial delegation arrived in Haikou after transiting through Guangzhou and received local consular and municipal welcomes. The exchange event was staged along Haikou’s historic Qilou Pedestrian Street and included traditional and contemporary Cambodian‑Chinese cultural performances and exhibitions of Cambodian products.

The Ministry of Tourism also scheduled a Cambodia Tourism Roadshow aimed at promoting Cambodia’s tourism potential and the Green Season campaign; the ministry announced the visa-free pilot for Chinese nationals to coincide with promotional activities.

Policy Context

Cultural exchange days and roadshows are tools used by national tourism authorities to boost destination awareness in priority markets and to support seasonal marketing campaigns. The announced visa-free pilot is an administrative measure that defines a temporary entry window for a specific nationality and set of travel purposes, and it will apply to arrivals within the stated dates.

Operational Implications

The delegation included senior leaders from Cambodia’s private tourism sector, reflecting coordinated public‑private participation in outbound promotion and product showcasing. Travel industry stakeholders, destination managers, and municipal partners are likely to reference the pilot dates and roadshow outputs when planning promotional activity and capacity requirements for the June–October 2026 window.
