The Ministry of Tourism announced that the 10th River Festival will be held in Kratie Province from 27 to 29 March 2026 under the theme “Green River, Cultural Heritage and Vast Natural Resources”. The announcement was made in connection with a site inspection led by Minister of Tourism Huot Hak, who also serves as chairman of the inter-ministerial committee organizing the 2026 festival, together with Kratie Provincial Governor Va Thorn.
Background
According to the ministry, the River Festival is a national tourism event intended to highlight the tourism potential of Cambodia’s river provinces. For the 2026 edition, Kratie Province was presented as a host location with natural tourism assets, cultural heritage, and river-based community livelihoods along the Mekong.
Event Details
The festival is scheduled to take place along the riverfront in Kratie Province. The ministry stated that activities for domestic and international visitors will include exhibitions of local products, traditional cultural performances, sports activities, and other entertainment programs.
Stated Policy Significance
The ministry stated that the event supports the Royal Government’s policy attention toward sustainable and responsible development in river areas. It also described the festival as generating both direct and indirect benefits, including promotion of inter-agency solidarity, support for development and economic growth, encouragement of green development that takes account of Khmer cultural resources, nature, and the environment, increased education and public awareness, and promotion of tourism through events.
