Background
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport dispatched a delegation led by Deputy Director General (ជា មុនីកូរ៉ាន) and officials from the Directorate-General of Road Transport to attend the 199th session of the UNECE World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) in Geneva from 23 to 26 June 2026.
Cambodia is a contracting party to the 1958 UNECE Agreement on vehicle technical regulations. WP.29 is the UNECE World Forum that develops and approves UN vehicle technical regulations under the 1958 Agreement.
Scope of Application
The 1958 UNECE Agreement establishes a system of UN Regulations that set technical requirements for vehicle components, safety systems and environmental performance and provides a mechanism for reciprocal recognition of type approvals among contracting parties. Contracting parties can align national vehicle type-approval procedures with UN Regulations to facilitate cross-border trade in vehicles and certified parts.
Key Provisions or Decisions
WP.29 sessions review proposed amendments to existing UN Regulations and consider new technical regulations proposed by member states and technical working parties. Delegations at the 199th session examined draft technical texts, exchanged technical expertise, and participated in the consensus-driven process used by UNECE to finalize regulatory texts.

Participation in WP.29 allows Cambodian regulators to monitor international technical standards that affect vehicle imports, homologation procedures and compliance testing.
